The Fauci Files: A Subpoenaed CIA Officer, an Overridden Origin Review, and the Money Trail
Sworn testimony says non-expert managers overrode the analysts who found a lab origin — and retaliated against the ones who objected. A declassified release, a pardon, and a paper trail. NU puts the allegations on the table WITH the receipts and lets you judge. Records over spin, kooky till proven — and a lot of this is on the record.
1. The whistleblower, under oath
In May 2026, James E. Erdman III — a CIA Senior Operations Officer who sat on the intelligence community's COVID-origins task force — testified under subpoena before the Senate Homeland Security Committee (chairs Rand Paul and Ron Johnson). This isn't a podcast claim. It's sworn testimony in the congressional record【2】.
His account of how the CIA's origin finding got flipped is the heart of this story:
- By March 2023, on the CIA's "COVID relook" team, 6 of 7 technical experts assessed a lab leak; 8 of 10 members overall leaned lab-origin at low confidence【2】.
- CIA management — "none of whom were subject-matter experts" — changed the agency's public line to "we may never precisely know the origin," with edits made at 1:53 a.m. in track-changes that didn't show the author【2】.
- Two analysts complained to the analytic-integrity ombudsman; the most senior analyst formally objected and refused further COVID work. Erdman alleges those analysts were retaliated against while the managers who overrode them were promoted【2】.
Strip the noise: the experts said one thing, the non-experts published another at 2 in the morning, and the people who flagged it got punished. That's the allegation, on the record.
2. The money — told straight (both versions)
NU won't hand the other side an easy out, so here's the honest version:
- A 2023 whistleblower (via Reps. Wenstrup and Turner) alleged 6 of 7 analysts were offered a "significant monetary incentive" to change their view — a claim the CIA denied ("we do not pay analysts to reach specific conclusions")【1】【3】.
- The 2026 sworn testimony walks the "bribe" back: Erdman states "CIA analysts were not bribed," but documents a pay disparity — lab-leak analysts got a $1,500 performance award; at least one zoonosis-favoring non-specialist got ~$6,000【2】. So the sworn record is disparity, not bribery. We say so. The stronger, sworn allegation is the override and retaliation above — not the money.
The bigger dollars are elsewhere, and documented:
- $8.9 million NIH grant to Kristian Andersen — lead author of "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2," the paper that publicly dismissed lab-leak. He privately voiced engineered-origin concerns on the Feb 1, 2020 Fauci/Collins call; Proximal Origin (dismissing lab leak) was drafted that month; his grant was finalized by Fauci's NIAID on May 21, 2020. An administration probe is examining a possible quid pro quo; Andersen denies it. Unproven — but the timeline is real【6】.
- $3.7M NIAID grant to EcoHealth Alliance for bat-coronavirus work, ~$600,000 of it to the Wuhan Institute of Virology【7】【8】. EcoHealth also ran the USAID-funded PREDICT program. In 2024, HHS formally debarred EcoHealth and Peter Daszak for five years over pandemic-era conduct【11】.
3. What Fauci is alleged to have done — and what he told Congress
Per the sworn testimony【2】:
- Feb 1, 2020: Fauci led a private teleconference with Farrar, Holmes, Andersen, Garry, Rambaut, and Collins.
- June 4, 2021: at an interagency meeting on the 90-day origins review, Fauci allegedly "provided specific guidance regarding the IC's outreach," and the officer running it pursued his recommendations — treating Fauci as a subject-matter expert rather than a public-health official.
- Erdman flags this as contradicting Fauci's June 2024 congressional testimony, where Fauci said he did "not to my knowledge" brief intel agencies and "left the issue of origin… to the experts."
Two more on-record items that fuel the distrust:
- In his January 2024 testimony to the House COVID subcommittee, Fauci conceded the six-feet distancing rule "sort of just appeared" and that he wasn't aware of data behind it — an extraordinary admission for a rule that shut schools and businesses.
- U.S. intelligence reporting (including a January 2021 State Department fact sheet) said several WIV researchers fell ill with COVID-like symptoms in autumn 2019, before the outbreak was acknowledged.
None of this is a conviction. All of it is in the record.
4. Gabbard's release — official allegation, contested
On June 18, 2026, outgoing DNI Tulsi Gabbard declassified 67 records under an ODNI headline asserting "Fauci Funded Wuhan Lab Research That Sparked COVID." The documents reference a July 2021 "Key Stakeholders" meeting to structure the origins review, and an internal memo flagging: "Not Fauci; in addition to being a customer, he'll be seen by many as having a conflict of interest."【9】
Fact-checkers (CNN and others) counter that the documents do not prove Fauci lied or that NIH funding created SARS-CoV-2 — noting the known EcoHealth/WIV viruses are evolutionarily distant from it【10】. NU marks Gabbard's strongest claims as alleged, not proven — and marks the "they buried it" claims the same way.
5. The pardon, and the blackout
- Jan 20, 2025: Biden issued a preemptive "full and unconditional" pardon covering Fauci's federal COVID-era conduct — a federal shield only (state exposure theoretically untouched).
- June 17, 2026: Sens. Paul and Johnson urged DOJ to prosecute and challenge the pardon — a request; no court has ruled.
- Coverage: the Media Research Center documented zero stories on ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, and PBS for the May hearing【6-mrc】; CNN ran ~90 seconds plus a later fact-check. A real broadcast under-coverage — and a sharp framing split (vindication vs. debunk), not a total blackout.
6. NU's bottom line
Here's the honest weight of it: a subpoenaed CIA officer swore that non-experts overrode the analysts who found a lab origin and punished the ones who objected; the money trail is real even where the "bribe" isn't proven; Fauci's own 2024 admissions (the six-feet rule "just appeared") and the autumn-2019 WIV illness reports are on the record; and a sitting pardon plus broadcast silence sit on top of it. The explosive conclusions aren't court-adjudicated — and we'll say that once, plainly. But this is not "nothing," and pretending it is would be its own kind of spin.
